American physician noted for his work on multiple sclerosis (MS). Realizing a strong immune system was essential for treatment of MS, Bornstein sought a drug that would treat the disease without weakening the immune system. While at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, he found the drug Copolymer 1 to be effective, offering an entirely new approach to the treatment of MS.
