American mathematician, teacher, and nun whose work is used in today's computer methods in proving hypergeometric identities. Fasenmyer graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Pennsylvania, where she later taught math for 10 years. She earned her A.B. degree from Mercyhurst College. Her Catholic order encouraged her to earn a master's degree at Pitt, which she received in 1937. She later received a doctorate from the University of Michigan.
