German-born American physician who was among the first female graduates of the Women's College of Philadelphia, and the first Jewish woman to complete her studies at that school. In 1859, a time when few women were entering the medical profession, Elson earned a medical degree and went on to establish a successful career as a physician in Philadelphia, and later in Indiana.
