Cuban-born American noted for her work in reproductive endocrinology. Bustillo pioneered methods of ultra-sound-guided egg retrieval and uterine lavage (washing) for oocyte donation. She has advanced reproductive medicine by introducing innovative concepts and has performed over 4,000 assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures. In 1983 Bustillo and John Buster were the first to successfully conduct a human embryo transfer.
