Marguerite Baker Harrison was an adventurer whose restlessness for new experiences was inspired by the desire to learn more about other countries and peoples. At the conclusion of World War I (1914–1918), she traveled through Germany, Russia, Japan, Korea, and China to investigate the political changes that the worldwide conflict had brought. She hoped that by reporting what she saw she could create greater understanding between the United States and other nations. Through her many writings and lectures about her travels she also tried to increase the American public’s interest in foreign affairs.
