English mathematician who received her Ph.D. from Cambridge University in 1971. After finishing her doctorate, she held a two-year Science Research Council Fellowship at Cambridge University, a fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Study and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has held faculty positions at the University of York, University of Warwick, and the State University of New York at Stonybrook. She is known for her work in von Neumann algebras and global symplectic geometry. She is active in the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program, which offers support to undergraduate women in the sciences.
