The love of the printed word is evident in Project Gutenberg, which was begun in 1971 by Michael Hart. Project Gutenberg seeks to make books—those that have fallen into the public domain—readily available to people throughout the world. The organization, staffed mainly by hundreds of volunteers, captures texts in electronic form, including many classic works of literature. The group reports making one more e-text available each day.
