English biologist whose work helped to establish the field of theoretical biology. His 1929 book, Biological Principles, was the first significant analysis of theoretical biology and helped to establish the field. This was followed in 1937 by The Axiomatic Method in Biology, which helped to introduce a heightened degree of logical rigor to the field of theoretical biology.
