1840-1921

Inventor of the pneumatic tires (patented in 1888). Dunlop first began manufacturing tires for bicycles in 1900, but soon began producing tires for automobiles (1906). To protect his investment, Dunlop began buying rubber plantations on the Malay Peninsula but eventually sold the land back to Malaysian investors. He continued manufacturing tires, and the company he founded, Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., is still in business.
