Spanish Muslim journeyer who wrote a popular book, the Rihlah, about his 1183-85 pilgrimage to Mecca. The Rihlah provides valuable information about the Christian and Muslim lands along the Mediterranean, as well as the practices of Genoese mariners. In modern times, it was translated into both French and English.
