German scholar who wrote a number of works on mathematics and astronomy. Among Hermann's writings were De utilitatibus astrolabii (On the uses of the astrolabe) and De mensura astrolabii (On measurement with the astrolabe), as well as several mathematical texts. His most famous book was a history of the world from the time of Christ up to the year 1054.
