Burgundian scholar and author of a work on arithmetic. Through persistence and ardent devotion to scholarship, Heriger became an unusually well educated man for tenth century Europe. He wrote a number of books, among them Regulae de numerorum abaci rationibus, an arithmetical work published many centuries later along with writings of his more famous contemporary Gerbert (a.k.a. Pope Sylvester II, 945-1003).
