Italian surgeon who was an early pioneer of dentistry. Born in Verona, Arcolani was the first to recommend the filling of teeth with gold fillings. As a surgeon, he specialized in dentistry in general and wrote about his findings in a book, Practica, published in 1483. He followed the teachings of Avicenna and was an opponent of Marliani, an avid supporter of Aristotle.
