This mathematician and physicist wrote Liber de motu between 1187-1260. This work describes various geometrical figures (lines, areas and solids) in rotation, the basis of kinematics. Gerard uses Archimedian principles, yet there is some doubt that he had read any Archimedes. A number of later writers on kinematics were influenced by his ideas, including Thomas Bradwardine and Nicole Oresme.
