English mathematician who contributed to the areas of calculus and algebra theory. Educated at home until shortly before entering Cambridge, Peacock became a tutor and lecturer at Trinity College. Peacock worked to introduce advanced methods of calculus to English mathematicians, winning a reputation as a reformer that would stay with him his entire life. In addition to his mathematical reforms, he worked to reform statutes at Cambridge University and was a member of governmental reform committees as well.
