German mathematician best known for his work on ordinal numbers and ordered sets. Schröder was also one of the first mathematicians to use the term mathematical logic, and his studies in this area were heavily influenced by George Boole's logic system. Schröder's detailed work on algebraic logic was used in developing modern algebraic theory as well as in providing the foundation for modern lattice theory.
