One of the greatest female tennis players of all time, Chris Evert ruled the sport for more than ten years (1974-1985) and established herself as a cultural icon in America and around the world. Born December 21, 1954 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Christine Marie Evert started playing tennis at the ripe age of six. With her father (teaching pro Jimmy Evert) as coach, Evert showed promise early on, rising to number two in the United States in the 12-and-under age group.
