1902-1980
German physicist instrumental in the evolution of quantum mechanics. Jordan collaborated with Max Born and Werner Heisenberg in elucidating the principles of quantum mechanics through the development of matrix mechanics (1926). Jordan then did pioneering work in quantum electrodynamics. He also proposed an alternate to Einstein's general theory of relativity. Independently and concurrently developed by Robert Dicke and Carl Brans (1961), it is known as the Brans-Dicke-Jordan theory. Precise measurements have not supported it.
