on April 20, 1999, Columbine High School seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold went to school carrying guns and bombs. Before taking their own lives, they left twelve students and one teacher dead, and wounded twenty-three others. The chaos inside the school lasted for hours after their suicides, as police and SWAT teams tried to locate the suspects and possible accomplices. It was later discovered that Harris and Klebold—who left behind video tapes and a Web site that detailed their plan of action—had been planning the attack for a year.
