1918-1998

Moise was born in 1918 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Moise served in the Navy during World War II and then earned a Ph.D. in topology at the University of Texas under R. L. Moore. He is best known for his work in mathematics education, writing an influential high school geometry text for the School Mathematics Study Group in 1964 and the accompanying advanced text for training teachers. These texts were part of the reform of secondary school mathematics in the United States during the "space race" of late 1950s and early 1960s.
