1914-

American applied mathematician whose research focused on the Laplace transform, a mathematical function named after the French mathematician Pierre Simon Laplace. Bernstein was a pioneer in incorporating applied mathematics and computer science into the undergraduate mathematics curriculum in the United States. Bernstein spent the majority of her career at Goucher College in Maryland. She was also closely associated with the Mathematical Association of America.
