Bennett Company created the small bone-shaped biscuit that is regarded by many today as a way to keep a dog's breath fresh and his attention focused on appropriate behavior. The biscuit began as a novelty item made from a combination of minerals, meat products, and milk. It was the only product of the company that remained in production after the National Biscuit Company took over the Bennett bakery in 1931. The Nabisco company named the product Milk-Bone and marketed it as a "dog's dessert."
