Conflict
Religious sects and splinter groups have been multiplying in Uganda since freedom of religion was permitted in 1986. Attention was drawn to the potential danger of such groups in March 2000, when between three hundred and five hundred members of the Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God apparently committed mass suicide by locking themselves in a church and setting the building ablaze. Shortly after the fire, hundreds of corpses were found buried in mass graves on land owned by the Ten Commandments Movement.
