Christopher Boyce and Andrew Daulton Lee grew up in a well-to-do suburb in southern California. As young men both were displeased with the United States government. In 1974 Boyce went to work at TRW Systems, an aerospace firm that worked on many classified military programs. In the following years, he smuggled information out of TRW, which Lee then passed to Soviet agents. In 1977 Lee was picked up by police outside the Soviet Embassy in Mexico. The young American was carrying microfilm of documents. The police soon concluded that he was a spy. Lee informed on Boyce, who was picked up ten days later in Los Angeles, California.
