Polish mathematician and physicist who was the first woman to earn a mathematics doctorate from a Canadian university. Kreiger's graduate studies included courses in modular elliptic functions, minimum principles of mechanics, theory of sets, theory of numbers, and theory of functions. Her thesis on the summability of trigonometric series with localized properties was published in two parts in the Transactions of the Royal Society of Canada. The Canadian Mathematical Society awards the CMS Krieger-Nelson Prize Lectureship for Distinguished Research by Women in Mathematics in honor of Krieger and her colleague, Evelyn Nelson.
