Carl Johan Andersson

Carl Johan Andersson was born in 1827 in the town of Vänersborg in Sweden. His father, Llewellyn Lloyd, was a hunter and author who was a native of Wales. His mother, Kajsa Andersdotter, was a Swedish farm woman. Because his parents never married, Carl used a version of his mother’s family name as his surname.

Decides to travel to Africa

In 1847 Andersson entered the University of Lund in Sweden to study zoology. He was forced to leave after a year, however, because of financial difficulties. So, like his father, he became a professional hunter, working in Sweden. After two years, he decided to travel to Africa, to try his luck hunting more exotic animals.
