Physician who in 1956 discovered strange, dense bodies in guinea pig heart cells. Although Kirsh did not at first understand the purpose or significance of these bodies, later research showed them to be involved in the release of hormones that help to regulate the circulatory system. This, in turn, led to a better understanding of the circulatory system in general, including the chemical processes that help to keep it operating properly.
