Breast size procedures are performed to increase or decrease the size of the breast. The two types of breast size procedures are breast augmentation, or implants, and breast reduction. With the earliest experiments in breast size procedures documented in the 1890s by a doctor in Vienna who attempted breast enlargement with paraffin injections, further research along with the public's interest subsided until the introduction of liquid silicone in the 1950s and 1960s. As research continues, from implanting polyvinyl sponges in dogs in 1952 to test their validity for use as prostheses in humans, to the search for the "perfect" and safer implant filler today, the demand for breast size procedures remains constant.
