Indian astronomer, mathematician, and physicist whose Karanakutuhala or Calculation of Astronomical Wonders was one of the most significant texts in medieval Hindu astronomy. In about 1150 Bhaskara—sometimes referred to as Bhaskara II to distinguish him from an ancient mathematician of the same name—made one of the first descriptions of a machine for perpetual motion.
