Italian anatomist and surgeon who was the first to name the appendix (1521) and the vas deferens. Da Carpi was also one of the first to illustrate his texts with figures. Other original observations included description of the thymus and the action and existence of the heart valves. He showed that the kidney is not a sieve and that the bladder of an unborn child had urinary pores.
