A recent and well-publicized example of prescription fraud occurred in Florida. In February 2002, Governor Jeb Bush's daughter, Noelle Bush, was arrested on charges of prescription fraud in Tallahassee. Ms. Bush, aged 24, was trying to buy Xanax, after allegedly having used the name of a retired doctor to call in a false prescription. If convicted, Ms. Bush will be guilty of a third degree felony, according to Florida law, and face a sentence of up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
