German naturalist whose botanical illustrations are popular for prints and posters even to this day. His magnificent engravings were the first large folio depictions of historical botanicals. He drew from the specimens in the garden of the Prince Bishop of Eichstatt. His artwork is vivid, realistic, and colorful.
