Address resolution protocol (ARP) is a protocol (method or formula) used by the Internet protocol (IP) to route information over the Internet to a specific computer connected to the Internet.

The address of the computer is resolved using a protocol in which a piece of information is sent by the local computer to a more distant server computer. The server uses the information to identify the network for which the address was required and than to provide this address to the local computer. The ARP is completed when the local computer (the client) receives the address information from the server.

The address resolution protocol operates in an Ethernet network. In an Ethernet network, two hardware addresses are used to identify the source and the destination of the information sent by the Ethernet. All information sent by a computer contains the computer's hardware...
