German geographer and major force in the development of contemporary geography. According to Büsching, the three foci of geography are the mathematical, the physical, and the human or cultural. He recognized the problems associated with data presentation and argued geography was more than just cartography. Büsching introduced statistical methods and census-based population density studies into geography. He also emphasized exact delimitation of areas using precise scales. His master work is Neue Erdbeschreibung ("New Earth Description").
