Anne Blunt and Wilfrid Scawen Blunt

During their travels in Arabia, Lady Anne Blunt and Sir Wilfrid Scawen Blunt became surprisingly integrated into the Bedouin culture. They adopted many Arab ways, including political views that were not acceptable to most English people during the late nineteenth century. Both wrote about their travels, and Wilfrid became well known as an English poet.

Lady Anne Isabella Noel was a granddaughter of Lord Byron, the famous English poet. Born into a noble family, she spent most of her childhood on the Continent, where she learned to speak several languages. She was also an accomplished artist and violinist. She owned two violins made by Antonio Stradivari, the famous seventeenth-century Italian violin maker, and she practiced five hours every day.
