The Republic of Angola is situated on the Atlantic (west) coast of Africa, just south of the Congo River. It is bordered to the north and east by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (former Zaire), to the southeast by Zambia and to the south by Namibia. The national territory covers 1,246,700 sq km (481,226 sq mi) and includes the enclave of Cabinda in the northwest. The capital is Luanda.
