Scottish inventor who developed the first threshing machine, a device used for removing grain from the stalk. Meikle's invention of the drum thresher improved the efficiency of grain threshing, enabling farmers to produce more food from each acre of land. Though not portable, the drum thresher could be run by water, wind, or horse power.
