1943-
Romanian-American mathematician known for her work in Ergodic theory, harmonic analysis, and number theory. She graduated from the University of Bucharest in 1957 before traveling to the United States with permission of the then-Communist regime. While at Yale, she studied with Shizuo Kakutani, a founder of Ergodic theory, and received her Ph.D. in 1959. She later taught at Northwestern University.
