Arab caliph who established a renowned hospital in Baghdad. By the time of al-Muqtadir's reign, the Abbasid Caliphate (750-1258) had begun its long, slow decline, and he was not a particularly notable leader. He did, however, take the important step of founding the Baghdad hospital in 918, and installing ar-Razi (Rhazes; c. 865-c. 923) as its director.
