Albert was born in 1905 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Russian immigrants. He earned his Ph.D. in 1928 from the University of Chicago, with a dissertation on algebras and their radicals. He was eventually elected President of the American Mathematical Society. Albert's book, Structure of Algebras, published in 1939, is considered a classic in the field. He died in 1972 in Chicago, Illinois.
