2C-B became illegal in the United States in 1995 when the DEA placed it on Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. In 1977, Great Britain became the first country to ban the drug. In the late 1990s, 2C-B was banned or placed under strict control in France, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, South Africa, and Sweden.
