Continental shelf deposits form as a result of sediment accumulation from organic activity and river input. Deep-water deposits form as superheated water along mid-ocean ridges cools. They also precipitate from seawater. Continental shelf deposits include phosphorite, limestone, sand, and gravel. Deep-water deposits include iron, copper, and manganese nodules.
