Science Why do the tectonic plates move? Asked by Dr. John Carmen 12 years ago 12/13/2012 8:19 AM Last updated by anonymous 12 years ago 12/14/2012 7:16 PM
Tectonic plates (about 30 of them globally) shift along the Earth's crust and most scientists believe that it is due to gravity, or convection from the mantel. Ridge push and slab pull also have to do with the movement too.
