What are the key characteristics of plankton, nekton, and benthos?

The key characteristics of plankton are that they drift with the currents of the ocean and are generally small in size. Benthos are organisms that live on or in the seafloor. Nekton organisms activly swim instead of drift in the currents and they have a bladder that fills with gas that allows them to float or sink.
