What are some reasons for conserving and restoring ecosystems that improve people's lives rather than on conserving ecosystems with the greatest biodiversity?

The reasoning is most likely one of human psychology. If a person sees immediate relief or benefit from such an ecosystem, then they are more readily convinced to allow a similar reclamation of larger areas with more biodiversity. The other reason, though not as scientifically based, may be one of culture. Most of the human culture is egocentric, seeing mankind as being at the top of a food chain and therefore entitled to more consideration than the rest of the organisms living on the planet.
