A mixture of convection cells found at the 30 degree latitude mark and the Criolis effect produces patterns of air circulation that we call global winds because they affect the entire planet. Local winds blow from any direction and only move short distances. Local winds are also impacted by other factors, such as warming or cooling of the area.
