Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the type that gives people sunburns if they stay out in the sun without protection. The wavelengths are shorter than that of visible light, but longer than x-rays.
Visible light is that light that the human eye can perceive and uses to view objects. Unlike UV that cannot be seen or detected, this light can be observed.
Infrared radiation has longer wavelengths than any of the other two types of radiation. Most of the sun's energy hits the earth in this form. This type of radiation is readily employed by many industries and occupations. It is also used in night-vision devices.
