Oil spills are harmful for many reasons. First of all, it is immediately dangerous for the indigenous wildlife such as fish, whales, dolphins, and sea birds. As it arrives on the coastline it impacts the humans who live there as well as the plants living along the coast. The oceans themselves are impacted because it changes the composition and viscosity of the water (which, when evaporated becomes part of the water cycle...creating pollution on that front as well). Oil spills are seriously bad for the environment.
