The body of the earthworm is coated in a mucoid type of covering that protects the earthworm as well as allowing it to move comfortably through the soil. Additionally, it is capable of obtaining everything it needs to survive via the soil and the substrates that it lives in. It has long ago lost true eyes as it has no need of them, but can sense vibrations in the soil.
