Bacterial infections are caused by single celled organisms that can be eradicated easily using antibiotics. Viral infections tend to be more resistant to antibiotics and require a living host to reproduce. Viruses tend to invade the host's cells, hijack their material, and insert their own DNA into the cell. Bacteria do not do this.
